Students become more aware of the environment around them and develop a sense of connection with it as they learn to record their thoughts, observations and discoveries in words and pictures.
Artist/teacher Vicki Rabinowitz emphasizes strong observation skills and mindful recording as she leads students in the art of nature journaling.
This enjoyable and satisfying workshop teaches about historical artists/naturalists and integrates writing, math, science and art.
Participants are encouraged to continue using their nature journals as part of their daily lives as learners.
Grades K-5 |  | Nobody Need Wait (Anne Frank) | Lessons In Acceptance and Tolerance
“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” Anne Frank
Storytelling artist/author Gerry Fierst presents this workshop based on acceptance and tolerance in a small group setting which allows students to fully participate and express their ideas and raise questions.
For younger grades, fables and tales will be used to illustrate the importance of understanding others and being respectful of differences.
For older grades, African-American slave stories, Native American oral history, accounts of Holocaust experiences, and Muslim wisdom tales will be presented to open discussion on the importance of recognizing our common humanity.
Participants of all ages will come away from the workshop with the realization that each of them has the opportunity to make the world a better place by accepting each other’s differences and embracing our similarities.

Curriculum Connection: Language Arts Literacy, Character Education |  | Papermaking | Take a guided tour with artist Gail Fishberg through an ancient craft that has become a contemporary art form.
Artist Gail Fishberg teaches students about the history of communication and paper's many widespread uses, as they make their own paper from raw pulp, using rainbow-hued dyes and found objects such as thread, yarn, leaves, and flowers.
This very hands-on workshop is creative and fun from the minute participants dip their hands into the colorful pulp-filled water, until their one of a kind design is completed.
Participants can take their handmade paper home to frame and hang as a piece of art, or use as a cover for a journal, diary, scrapbook, or on a book the students write themselves. A favorite of all ages!
