Introduction To Theatre Through Literature

Delve into the world of novels, short stories, poems, and plays

People, locations, and settings come alive in the classroom as students improvise scenes and moments from the literature they have read with the help of artist Gerry Fierst.

Forces and motives driving the characters and plot bring immediacy to the written word.

By freeing their imaginations, students experience the imagination of the author first-hand.

Jungle Animals

Artist Mark Stankiewicz will show students the work of Henri Rousseau and explain his unique style of working with layers. They will create their own layered jungle scene with leaves, cut out animals and more.

This workshop can be extended to a mini-residency with students creating a large paper mural for their classroom that has painted leaves, a painted pattern border and jungle animals that have been drawn, cut out and pasted into the scene.

Lovely Ladybugs

Environmental Studies

Puppets, poetry, and hands-on investigations excite children during this discovery workshop with Betty Boomer.

Songs and activities teach insect body parts.  Children are delighted as live ladybugs open their wing covers and fly.
