A confident child can do anything!
The Speech Doctor, Kathleen Williams, PhD, extends her visit in this 3-5 day residency, so students can see their public speaking skills improve and self-esteem increase.
Students will receive encouraging, age-appropriate instruction in all areas of speech delivery, and Kathleen’s humorous, comfortable approach makes learning the essentials easy. Relaxation and confidence building techniques will also be presented.
Elements of curriculum can be incorporated into this residency to further reinforce concepts presented in the classroom. By learning to conquer the causes of nervousness and mastering these techniques, students become self-assured, expressive communicators who are not afraid to speak up for themselves.
Grades K-8 | | Theatre Skills | A workshop for students interested in further developing their acting skills is available for short- or long-term residencies. Some topics which can be addressed are acting techniques, voice projection, character development, scene development, and audition preparation. In addition, stagecraft components can be explored in depth. Grades 9-12 Curriculum Connections: Language Arts Literacy, Career Education
| | Yoga Residency | Yoga strengthens and relaxes the body, focuses the mind, nurtures self-expression, and builds confidence. An empowerment class, instilling a sense of worth and confidence in students, begins a residency consisting of a minimum of 4 days. Instructor Wendy Messano will then focus on a different theme in each subsequent session that will help participants incorporate what they learn into their lives.
Themes may include: Moods/Emotions; How Can I Relax?; Earth, Air, Or Water; In the Garden; The Deep Blue Sea; The Power of Me! (anti-bullying); Strength, Power, Balance; Good Night’s Sleep; Meditation.
This residency allows students to bring balance into their lives using movement and expression. Participants move at their own pace and grow as they progress.
A Yoga residency is an excellent character-building vehicle and can be used to deliver messages of respect, acceptance and camaraderie. It also teaches control of emotions and promotes a peacefulness of existence, all of which helps to stop bullying and encourage a strong peer community.
Schools may consider having a yoga residency prior to testing days to help students to focus, relax, and give them a better sense of their abilities.
